_About the Scholarship The Betty Hayes Kids First Scholarship will honor two high school students at St. Mary’s Academy New Orleans with scholarships for
the 2012-2013 academic year. Scholarship winners will be required to carry out a
service project that benefits children in need, either locally or internationally, in the spirit of Kids First and Cultural Care colleague, Betty Hayes. About
Kids First and St. Mary’s Academy In
the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Cultural Care Kids First was looking for a way
to help children in New Orleans. Through the Adopt-A-Library program, Kids
First was matched with St. Mary’s Academy as they had just opened their doors
to elementary students and had no books for young children. To help St. Mary's purchase books for their youngest students, Kids First
committed to providing funds and books for an elementary school library. The
Betty Hayes Kids First Scholarship is a continuation of our efforts to support
the children of New Orleans. We have enjoyed our Kids First partnership with St.
Mary’s and are happy to be able to further assist the students of St. Mary’s
while honoring a devoted and caring colleague.
_About Betty Hayes The
Betty Hayes Kids First Scholarship is established in honor of our friend and
colleague, Elizabeth (Betty) Hayes. Betty worked closely with families and international
au pairs in the St. Louis area as a Local Childcare Coordinator for more than
10 years. In 2006, she joined our development staff, dedicated to promoting
Cultural Care as a unique childcare and cultural exchange option for families
nationwide. Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer in November 2009. Betty had
been a devoted mother of four children and grandmother of eight. She was
passionate about the welfare of children worldwide. Cultural Care Kids First
Foundation is pleased to honor Betty by offering this scholarship opportunity
to students at St. Mary’s Academy who share her passion for helping children in
need.
