Share Our Strength: a campaign to end childhood hunger in the U.S.
Share Our Strength’s began in 1984 with the vision to end hunger and poverty in the United States and abroad. It’s not enough to make sure America’s children have enough to eat; but we must make sure they are getting the nutrition they need to live healthy, active lives.
Share Our Strength’s highest priority is to make sure that every child in America gets the nutritious food he or she needs to learn, grow and thrive. They are accomplishing this by improving the access that families all across the country have to healthy, affordable food and by working at the state and city level, with the help of organizations like Cultural Care Kids First Foundation.

How Kids First is helping
Share our Strength has developed several different initiatives to combat childhood hunger in the U.S. Cultural Care Kids First Foundation has supported many of these campaigns with the help of our Boston office staff, local childcare coordinators, host families and au pairs. We have also simply donated money in times of great need.
A $10,000 challenge
In August 2011, Kids First contacted Executive Director of Share our Strength Billy Shore to challenged other supporters to donate in August and agreed to match all donations, dollar-for-dollar—up to $10,000—until the end of the month. As shared by Share our Strength's website: "Summer is the most important time to connect kids with free meals, and the most difficult. Without access to free or reduced priced meals at school, millions of kids aren’t getting the food and nutrition they need."
Billy was blown away by our support and thanks to a powerful email sent to donors, the $10,000 challenge was reached. As promised, we matched with a $10,000 donation of our own!
