Books for an after-school program in Virginia

Peter Paul Development Center
Richmond, Virginia USA

THE ORGANIZATION

Peter Paul Development Center is an outreach and community center in a struggling Richmond neighborhood that faces below average income levels and high crime and drug use rates. The center gives children a safe, consistent, structured, and loving environment in which to thrive, and the instruction and support that they need to be successful.

The project

Peter Paul Development Center’s after-school learning immersion program supports 185 students ages 7 to 18. An important component of the program involves working with students to improve their reading skills. The purchase of two books for each child, one that is history related and one with a S.T.E.M. focus, as well as events incorporating the books with fun, hands-on, and interactive activities were funded by a grant from Cultural Care Kids First Foundation.
